The project is aimed at providing free training for mentors of secondary school students and higher vocational students to carry out practical work-based training or practical education, thereby enabling new graduates of vocational and professional education to be better prepared for their profession.
Mentoring students is a challenging task. The project promotes strengthening the competence of mentors in companies to ensure high-quality guidance for students of secondary vocational and secondary professional schools who undergo practical training, for higher vocational students who complete practical education with employers, and for other participants in different forms of practical training or education (apprentices).
Mentors in companies will participate in at least 32 hours of training, according to the training program. By implementing this training, we aim to achieve a higher level of mentor competence, which will result in better learning opportunities for students in various institutions.
Furthermore, communication between schools and institutions will undoubtedly improve. Students undergoing will gain a broader understanding of all relevant areas, acquiring more knowledge and competencies. Such collaboration with various institutions will also enhance the interconnection between education and the labor market.
The training consists of 32 hours of direct teaching and 18 hours of independent work by the participants. The training is usually conducted over four days, and the participants conclude the training by preparing a final assignment.
An individual who completes the basic training acquires pedagogical-andragogical competence for working with students and/or higher vocational students in the workplace, while simultaneously enhancing their mentoring skills.
The project enables companies to train personnel who will serve as competent mentors for secondary vocational and secondary professional school students undergoing practical work-based training (PUD) or apprenticeships, as well as for higher vocational students completing practical education with employers (PRI).
Companies and institutions wishing to register as learning workplaces must meet the criterion of having appropriately trained staff capable of mentoring students and/or higher vocational students in the workplace. The “Training of Mentors 2021–2023” project ensures that their future mentors acquire adequate and high-quality pedagogical-andragogical competence to work effectively with students and/or higher vocational students in practical settings.
Basic training is open to employees who have not yet participated in the mentor training program within the Training of Mentors project and who meet the eligibility criteria.
Candidates for mentoring secondary vocational students in practical work-based training (PUD) can join the training if they have:
a secondary professional education and at least three years of work experience in the relevant professional field
OR
a secondary vocational education and at least five years of work experience in the relevant professional field.
Candidates for mentoring higher vocational students in practical education (PRI) can join the training if they have:
