The Piramida Maribor Education Centre is the leading educational institution in the field of food science and nutrition in northeastern Slovenia. Because of the importance of our centre, we have established an excellent foundation for training in professions that have always been, and will continue to be, indispensable — namely the professions of baker, confectioner, and butcher. Together, we have also outlined a clear path for vertical development within these educational programmes.
The Technical Gymnasium Programme is a four-year programme that concludes with the Matura examination. Within this programme, students develop scientific and technical thinking, laboratory skills, and the ability to use various information sources. They cultivate a particular interest in biology, chemistry, microbiology, and biotechnology, developing abilities that are especially important for further studies in natural sciences.
The core of this educational programme consists of professional subjects such as biotechnology, microbiology, and laboratory practice, which are introduced in the second year.
In the vocational-technical education track, we responsibly and professionally provide students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies that build upon the abilities they acquired in their secondary vocational education, particularly in the field of food science and nutrition.
The educational pathway at our centre culminates in studies at our Higher Vocational College for Nutrition and Food Science, which equips graduates with specialized knowledge, enabling them to succeed in responsible positions within the food and nutrition industry. Graduates may also continue their studies at university level.
Due to the importance of the professions we educate for, our school is committed to acting professionally and responsibly in order to:
increase enrolment in the first year of study (through cooperation with primary schools, counselling services, and partnerships within the local community),
reduce dropout rates (especially in the first years of study),
maintain the number of currently enrolled students,
cooperate with parents and guardians,
collaborate with educators in student dormitories and other institutions,
cooperate with related schools both in Slovenia and abroad,
collaborate with employers and follow examples of good practice,
respond to the needs of the economy (e.g. through cooperation with the Chamber of Craft and other organizations),
provide the industry with highly qualified personnel in the fields of food science and nutrition.
At the Higher Vocational College, we will continue to act professionally and responsibly to:
increase enrolment and the number of active students,
cooperate and establish partnerships with the food and nutrition industry,
provide students with opportunities for lifelong learning in food and nutrition,
increase student motivation for regular study and successful completion of their education,
connect the college with related higher education institutions and faculties at home and abroad (international cooperation, exchanges, etc.),
implement and complete projects at both national and international levels, and acquire new ones,
maintain professional and personal relationships with our graduates.
The Intercompany Training Centre is the third organizational unit of our institution and serves as a bridge between theory and practice, integrating the knowledge and experience that our students gain throughout their studies. Therefore, in the MIC, we will strive professionally and responsibly to:
connect the theoretical knowledge of our students with practical experience,
build partnerships with the industry and chambers in the field of food and nutrition,
organize specialized and functional training programmes in food and nutrition (seminars, master exams, NPK certifications, workshops, etc.),
successfully manage and participate in various projects at the local, national, and international levels.
professional and high-quality education for students and adult learners,
strong relationships with the economy, chambers, and other stakeholders in the fields of food and nutrition,
cooperation with related schools in Slovenia and abroad,
the quality and effectiveness of the Intercompany Training Centre (MIC),
positive and respectful relationships at all levels — among students, staff, and parents.
